Method for Prayer by Matthew Henry
When we pray with or for families where death is, especially such as have lost their head.
Visit the houses of mourning, as our Saviour did, and comfort them by assuring them that Christ is the resurrection and the life; John 11:25(KJV) that their relations which are removed from them are not dead but sleep; Matthew 9:24(KJV) and that they shall rise again; John 11:23(KJV) that they may not sorrow as those that have no hope; 1 Thessalonians 4:13(KJV) and enable them to trust in the living God, 1 Timothy 6:17(KJV) the Rock of Ages, and enjoy the fountains of living waters, when creatures prove broken reeds Isaiah 36:6(KJV) and broken cisterns. Jeremiah 2:13(KJV)
Be a father to the fatherless and a husband to the widows, O God, in thy holy habitation. Psalm 68:5(KJV) With thee let the fatherless find mercy, Hosea 14:3(KJV) keep them alive, and let the widows trust in thee, Jeremiah 49:11(KJV) that they may be widows indeed, who being desolate, trust in God and continue instant in prayer night and day. 1 Timothy 5:5(KJV) And where father and mother have forsaken, let the Lord take up the children, Psalm 27:10(KJV) and not leave them orphans, but come to them. John 14:18(KJV)
